What Is RF Microneedling?

Melasma comes from two sources working together: the pigment cells in your skin and the abnormal blood vessels feeding them. Rather than broadly heating the skin, the pulsed wave setting delivers short, targeted pulses to both sources at once.
That’s what makes it effective for melasma, rosacea, and active acne, conditions where broad heating can do more harm than good.
A Treatment That Works Where Lasers Often Can't
If you have a deeper skin tone, chances are you’ve been told laser treatment for melasma is risky, or maybe you’ve already tried it and watched the pigment come back even darker. That’s called post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, or PIH, and it happens because laser light targets melanin, the pigment in your skin, which makes deeper skin tones harder to treat safely.

Is SYLFIRM X Right for You?
SYLFIRM X works well for a wide range of patients and skin tones, especially if you’re dealing with loose or lax skin, textural concerns like acne scars or enlarged pores, or melasma and rosacea that haven’t responded to other treatments.
That said, we’ll hold off on SYLFIRM X if any of the following apply, simply to keep you safe:
- Active skin infection or severe acne
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
- A severe skin disease such as eczema, psoriasis, or herpes simplex
- Metal implants in the treatment area
- A tendency toward keloid scarring
- A weakened immune system

What Can I Expect At My Appointment?
We’ll start with a topical numbing cream, applied about 20 to 30 minutes before your treatment. Most patients feel warmth and pressure, with some light tapping or prickling, and find it comfortable once the numbing takes effect.
Appointments typically run 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the area we’re treating and which modes we use. Afterward, your skin will feel warm and flushed, similar to a mild sunburn.
Recovery & Results
You may notice some redness and slight swelling for a day or two afterward, and most patients are back to their normal routine quickly.
Here’s what the first week typically looks like:
- Day of treatment: redness and warmth, similar to mild sunburn, with some swelling
- Day 1 to 2: redness fading, with mild swelling possible, most often around the eyes; makeup is usually fine after 24 hours
- Day 3 to 5: skin may feel dry or slightly rough, with light flaking possible
- End of week 1: skin looks normal again, while the collagen work continues underneath for several weeks
With melasma, change comes gradually. Most patients start seeing a visible difference after their second or third session, and we manage melasma rather than cure it, so maintenance sessions and daily sun protection help hold your results. We’d rather give you an honest timeline than a promise we can’t keep.
We recommend three to four sessions, spaced four to six weeks apart, for melasma, rosacea, or tightening goals. Daily SPF 30 or higher, gentle skincare, and staying out of direct sun help protect your results between visits.
